A VINEYARD CONDUCTED IN ORGANIC AGRICULTURE HALF WAY BETWEEN PROVENCE & LANGUEDOC In 1740 the de Surville family bought the Chateau de Valcombe.

Over the years and generations, the estate has been transformed into a wine-growing estate.

After World War II, Louis de Surville transmitted the estate to his nephew, Charles Ricome.

Dominique Ricome, his son, took over in 1979 with his wife Bénédicte. Basile and Nicolas joined them in 2000 and 2005.

The estate now covers 88 hectares. The Valcombe terroir is made up of rolled pebbles, alluvium from the Durance, and Rhone gravel in the deeper soils.

A fine limestone vein, unique in Costières de Nîmes, runs through our vineyard in depth. The north of the domain is the highest point of the AOP Costières de Nîmes, 110m above sea level. Valcombe benefits from sea breezes which create saline notes on the finish on the whites and freshness on the rosés.

The terroirs of Gigondas form a unique geological unit. This geological originality is very rare in the Rhône Valley.

The resulting soils constitute structured and unique terroirs, for very complex wines.

Over the years and successive generations, many improvements have been made, both to the vineyard and to the estate. Indeed, my grandfather was a pioneer by planting in 1966 one of the first two plots of Syrah present in Gigondas, and my father, Bernard, continued by constantly maintaining and renovating the vineyard in which Grenache plots from 1919 and 1929 are still in production and religiously maintained.

Our 14 hectare Gigondas vineyard, which is mainly located on the slopes, is mainly composed of Grenache and Syrah.

The property also includes 2.60 hectares of Vacqueyras and 3.3 hectares of Vin de Pays, MERLOT CALADOC grape varieties that we vinify only as red wines.

All our wines are “Vegan” and come from a selection of small plots which give rise to wines of great concentration and suitable for aging.
